I am sure most big bore shooters have read about the new 416 Ruger, which was jointly developed by Ruger and Hornady. I have not yet fired it, but here is a clip you might like to see. It's important to note that none of these new cartridges really offer more in terms of performance. A 400 grain bullet fired from a 416 Ruger out of the 20" barrel is just over 2300 fps, which is the same more or less as the old 404 Jeffery or the well known 416 Rigby. So they are all basically the same!
What is different is the rifle. For a start it is far cheaper than say buying a 416 Rigby (even made by Ruger), let alone a custom or heaven forbid an original 416 Rigby! The 416 Ruger in the US costs under $1000 and comes in a synthetic stocked rifle with a very handy 20" barrel, which is perfect for hunting in wet weather conditions. The model with the wood stock is yet to be introduced, it's possible that like the 375 Ruger , the African model will come with a longer 23" barrel, which will bring the velocity back to 2400 FPS.
