Lions - hunters can help

  This is something hunters can help with to show we do not just kill, but also help with conservation. If you choose to make a donation, please make sure that you tell them you are a hunter, and that you read about this on Hunters Networks. These people are against hunting, and support from hunters might just go a long way changing their minds. Anyway, I do think that it is a worthwhile cause to support.

  Dear SanWild supporters and friends

   

  Earlier this year we alerted you to our financial predicament in feeding and caring for the SanWild lions. Fortunately with your support and financial contributions we could raise sufficient funding to prevent the lions being euthanized. 

   

  In our previous appeal we shared the heart breaking news with you that should we fail to raise sufficient funding SanWild would have no other option than to put the lions to sleep.  This was a heart breaking decision we had to consider, but unfortunately a hard reality bearing in mind the international financial crisis and the dwindling donor funding available to animals.  Sadly it seems that in case of financial hardship it is always the animals that mostly have to bear the brunt of lack of financial support.

   

  Fortunately we had your support and your contributions, large and small, helped us raise sufficient funding to continue to care for Jespha's, Lutalo's and the Royal Pride Members.  All sixteen lions are doing great and have recently been moved to larger, more spacious enclosure that was constructed with fencing materials donated to SanWild after a local farmer had sold his property and has some 2nd hand fencing materials available.  Vasectomies have been done on the 2 young males in the Royal Pride and facial warts that was causing a lot of discomfort on one of Lutalo's lionesses was also removed.  This ensures that no breeding of lions will take place at SanWild as all the males have now had vasectomies.  They lead a normal life; lionesses still come into oestrus, but do not conceive during mating.  All is well and happy on the lion front.

   

  However we have once again reached a point where the funding raised was sufficient to care for the lions until the end of April and we now urgently need to ask for your financial contributions once again to ensure the continued well being of the SanWild lion prides.
